The field of laboratory science is one of the branches of medical science

The field of laboratory science is one of the branches of medical science, which is included in the paramedical fields. This field diagnoses the disease with the laboratory analysis of blood, fluids and tissues of the human body.

Laboratory science is offered continuously and intermittently in bachelor’s degrees, and currently there is no field under the title of laboratory science in higher than bachelor’s degrees. Graduates of the bachelor’s degree in laboratory sciences can study in any of the branches related to the field, such as clinical biochemistry, hematology, immunology, bacteriology, microbiology, parasitology, virology, mycology, toxicology, biotechnology, etc. Master’s degree and then a specialized doctorate (PHD) to continue their studies.

The undergraduate course of this field consists of 130 units, of which 16 units are field training.

Laboratory science courses are very similar to basic medical science courses, such as:

Anatomy, pathology, histology, cellular and molecular biology, general and clinical biochemistry, medical microbiology, medical mycology, medical virology, medical bacteriology, medical parasitology, immunology, hematology, immunohematology (blood bank), terminology (specialized language) and… which are presented theoretically and practically.

This field exists in the universities of the world under the title of Medical Laboratory Science and Clinical Laboratory Science.

In addition to conducting experiments, laboratory science experts must ensure the accuracy and validity of the obtained results and be familiar with quality control methods.

Bachelor’s degree graduates in laboratory sciences can work in clinical laboratories of hospitals, medical diagnosis laboratories, research centers, blood transfusion organizations, etc.

Graduates of this field, like some fields of medical sciences, are required to go through the human resources plan for half of their studies.      PHD level: Master’s degree graduates can participate in the above-mentioned trends by participating in the Master’s exam for PHD.

Commemoration of Medical Diagnostic Laboratory Sciences of the country: Since April 30, 2002, when the first commemoration of Hakim Farzaneh and prominent Iranian scientist, Seyed Ismail Jarjani, the founder of Laboratory Science, was held, this day was designated as the day of commemoration of medical diagnostic laboratory sciences, and every year science associations and organizations The laboratory honors this day.

Manpower Plan: According to the approvals of the Ministry of Health, Medicine and Medical Education, the graduates of laboratory sciences (all levels) are also required to go through the manpower plan for half the duration of their studies, it is worth mentioning that passing the plan in one of grades, it exempts a person from passing the plan in higher grades of this field. This project is carried out in one of the centers covered by universities of medical sciences, such as central laboratories, hospitals, and in some cases, universities that have declared the need. Title of laboratory science courses and number of units:

Total number of units: 130 units
General courses: 20 units
Basic courses: 31 units
Special courses: 61 units
Internship in the field: 16 units
