Section D: Description of duties of midwives during non-pregnancy
Consulting and training including:
Taking a history and filing a case
Education and counseling about adolescent puberty and its issues and problems
Training and counseling before and after marriage and preparation for pregnancy
Counseling and training regarding the use of various contraception methods with couples (including educational counseling before and after tubal ligation in men and women, IUD, Norplant, etc.)
Counseling and teaching family planning methods after childbirth and abortion with couples
Educating people to attract their participation in health programs, especially the participation of men in family planning programs
Counseling and training on breast self-examination and breast diseases, especially in relation to breastfeeding
Education about vaccination of mothers, babies, infants and children under six years of age
Counseling and training on breastfeeding and timely and correct initiation of complementary foods
Education about any child development problems
Teaching oral hygiene and personal hygiene of mother and child
Counseling and training regarding sexually transmitted diseases, AIDS, hepatitis, cancers and infertility with couples
Counseling and training on sexual issues and problems
Counseling and training on health and menopause issues and problems
Performing necessary examinations including:
Performing physical examinations and screening tests
Performing periodic breast examinations and screening for relevant diseases and referring to a doctor if necessary
Conducting examinations of the genital tract and screening for diseases and referral to a doctor if necessary
Regular pap smear and cytological examination of the sample in case of passing the relevant courses
Examination of newborns, children and infants including (oral and dental examination, child’s development status, child’s individual health examination, umbilical cord care and hygiene, etc.)
Providing services including: requesting the necessary tests before prescribing contraceptive methods and vaginal secretion culture testing if necessary (currently requesting FBS testing and checking blood lipids before prescribing pills for candidates who are over 35 years old or have a history of diabetes during pregnancy and other than that, or they are obese, according to the existing guidelines, it is mandatory) to request an ultrasound if necessary before placing the IUD or to check its condition
Inserting and removing the IUD
Condom prescription
Prescribing oral contraceptive pills
Administration of progesterone injections
Planting light plants
Prescribing other methods of contraception other than those mentioned in the above paragraphs
Treatment of vaginal and cervical infections within the permissible limit
Supervision and implementation of vaccination of women before marriage and during pregnancy, as well as vaccination of infants and children under six years of age, weighing and periodic measurement of blood pressure for family planning clients
Monitoring the growth of infants and children under six years of age, including weighing, measuring height, head circumference, etc., recording in the child’s growth chart and its interpretation
Diagnosing and treating diarrheal diseases according to the guidelines and available educational charts
In the case of acute respiratory infections, education to the mother in order to prevent and take care of the infected child at home according to the available educational instructions and charts.
Prescription of authorized drugs as described in the attached list and according to the relevant instructions
