Why are project control experts paid less than other project specialties? When do we say that a project has failed? When we are behind the times? Have we spent more than the budget? It is absolutely true. But when you realize that the project has been delayed or you have spent more money, you are in the middle of a crisis. Time delay or cost are the causes, but the effects of the story are far beyond these two cases. All the problems that arise in the project cause time and cost delays. The reasons that cause these delays include not properly defining the scope, identifying the requirements of the beneficiaries, not identifying the beneficiaries, not properly managing resources, improper communication, poor logistics, and so on. are
Consider the projects you worked on. What actions have the project control experts taken? Preparation of WBS, schedule and schedule control and in special cases cost control. According to the above, what happened? The project control expert should be the eyes and ears of the project manager. Now, with the above measures, these experts are the last ones to be aware of the problems and obstacles, and they cannot take any action to improve the situation. Suppose a factory is on fire, what happens if the alarm goes off after half of the factory is on fire? Certainly there will be no more workshops. The work of project control experts is the same. Controlling the whole project and announcing the situation before the crisis.
In fact, most project control experts are some kind of report experts who take information from other units and turn it into a report and present it to the management. Well, when the senior management sees that no proper action, no solution is offered to the project by these people, why should they pay a lot of money for these experts. What they do is what a diploma with 2 years of experience can do.
It is better to be honest with ourselves. When our only duty is to report, why should we get high salaries like a technical or executive expert. The work can be done without us, but because the organization must have project planning and control experts based on the contract or request of the employer, without any added value for them, the wages will be reduced. When wages fall, the number of applicants increases and people are replaced, creating a small problem.
Many times we all complain about the lack of intelligence and culture in the organization, but it is better to put ourselves under the microscope first. Experts who cannot provide timely and correct solutions for the success of the project, those who cannot properly control the defects of a project, cause the lack of trust of senior managers in this industry and reduce the usual suffering of wages.
You cannot become a project planning and control expert by reading a book or a course, or even by knowing the relevant software. Software generally does less than 20% of what we need to do in a project. Experts in this profession must learn to see well and listen well. They must be good analysts. Knowing the software alone will put the profession on the downslope as it has been until now.
As a result, I must state that the lower salary of this profession is more than 80% due to our inability to control the project. The trust of senior managers in this profession has decreased. Raman Rezaei www.linkedin.com/in/ramanrezaei
