Is it better to study early in the morning or at night?
If we examine the various researches that have been done in this field, we will find that there are conflicting results in answering the above question. For example, one of the researches published on the Biomed center website has concluded that sleeping late causes grades to drop. Staying up late causes sleepiness during the day, which has a negative effect on grades and academic performance. Of course, another research published in the Journal of Natural Sciences showed that there is no relationship between students’ study time and their academic status.
Benefits of studying during the day:
It is not too difficult to defend the theory that reading daily is a better choice. In the morning, the mind is fresh and by eating breakfast, we will be provided with energy. The sun shines in just the right spectrum for vision, and the outside world and libraries and reading rooms are open during business hours.
But like my owl, I prefer nights!
Like many students, you may prefer to study at night. The silence and peace of the night is tempting and the mind and body are calm at night. There are many stories about great discoveries made at the end of the night.
What is the opinion of science about this question?
From the point of view of science, people’s activity cycles are different and there are patterns that show when is the best time to study for you. People who wake up spontaneously at 7 am and have maximum energy until 10 am and then feel a little tired and after rest have energy again until 3 pm are their daily routine.
While another group of people are completely different. They feel tired until noon and then are refreshed by 3pm. After that, they need some rest and are fresh again until 7 pm. These people have a nocturnal mechanism.
In addition, research has shown that younger people prefer the night more than older people. In fact, from the age of 30 onwards, only 2% of students preferred to study at night and 89% of them chose to study during the day.
As younger people go out more at night and use smart devices that have artificial light more, they disrupt their natural sleep cycle, which makes them more refreshed and awake at night.
Best time to study:
To answer this question, you need to look at your lifestyle. Young people whose lifestyle involves more activity at night feel that nights are more suitable for studying. If you’re an adult who’s just started further education, you’ll probably find daily study more appropriate because you’ll be more prepared for the day job over time.
The most important thing to consider is having enough sleep. Whether you have a daily routine or a night, you should not sleep less than what is necessary for health.
