The looting of the history of “Jizd” in Rashtkhawar;
A robbery similar to Giraffet

Maryam Atyabi- Everything starts with a photo. A photo that is published for a ceremony in Rashtkhar, an area between Torbet Jam and Khaf, and a castle that has been relentlessly excavated in front of it.

Archaeologist Dr. Mustafa De Pahlavan has published aerial photos of it and has depicted the depth of the disaster. A historical city of about 35 hectares that has been relentlessly excavated and there is officially no empty space in aerial images.
Do these pictures remind heritage lovers of the looting of historical monuments?!

How such an important historical city has been the target of such continuous excavations and no one has been informed about it in the country?!! Even the archaeologists did not react to it and probably the specialized groups and experts outside the province are not aware of the existence of such an area at all!

Research in the news and searching for the name of Jizd shows that, according to the officials, most of the excavations belong to the pre-revolutionary and early revolution eras, but further investigation of the news shows that the excavations have never stopped and have continued until now.

According to the report published in Chehal Mah News, which was explained by Mohammad Qasimpour, the head of Rashtkhwar Education, the historical city of Jizd is located at a distance of one and a half kilometers from the road from Khaf to Rashtkhwar and 12 kilometers east of the center of Rashtkhwar. This large historical city is next to The current village of Akbarabad is located, its current area, which exists in the form of low and high hills, is about 25 hectares, which with the surrounding small and large hills that are sometimes under rainfed cultivation is more than 35 hectares, and it can be considered one of the largest historical hills. Khorasan Razavi knew.

This city has been the link of the western and northern provinces of Iran, especially Zawah, Tus, Neishabur, Tarshiz and to the east of Afghanistan, Sistan, Qahestan and Zozan. In most of the historical books, Jizd has been considered as a part of the province of Zozan and Khaf.

The roofs of its adobe houses are domed and the insides of the houses are plastered. Almost in the center of the city, it is clear that it is higher than the rest of the city and has high walls and towers and ramparts. These towers and ramparts can be seen to some extent. In the southern part of this citadel, there is a long and winding hall with several houses. And it is the vestibule, which was the entrance to the citadel and seems to have been the most important way and gate.

From what is left of the city, it can be said that the city was circular. Upon entering the ruins of Jizd, we come across a large amount of pottery with various colored glazes, which are decorated with beautiful patterns and mostly include bowls, jars, cups, khams, pitchers and other containers.

Other objects found in this city include golden statues, tallow burners, beautiful candlesticks, and coins with inscriptions on them. Many remains of pottery kilns can be seen around Jizd, most historical sources have mentioned little about Jizd.

This great city was completely destroyed at the same time as the Mongol attack on Iran due to reasons that remain hidden. Even now, the citadel and the center of the city are visible due to the presence of tall and strong towers and ramparts.
