– In line with the discussion we had, several people messaged me about what an architect can do
In general, the working environment and the size of companies in America and Canada are very different from what we saw in Iran, and this can create new opportunities and needs that we are not aware of when we look at the Iranian system.
– Roughly, large architecture companies have between 500 and 6000 employees
– Medium companies of 100-500 employees
– And small companies under 100 employees
– It can be said that small companies are the same as we have in Iran
But big companies are very different, and naturally they have different projects
Now let’s think about what kind of jobs are needed in a big company (that architects do, for example, apart from secretary and head of financial affairs).
Many of these jobs in small companies and small projects either do not exist or several are performed by one person (like Iran).
1- Company manager – usually an architect who studied business or MBA
2- Designer: the person who designs the external shell of the building, its shape and volume
and external renderings
3- Internal designer: the one who designs the inside of the shell
does
and internal renderings
3- planner: the one who designs the interior plan, thinks about the relationship between spaces and function
4- Master Planner: Someone who works on the scale of our construction
Unfortunately, we do not have this scale
This work is very different from urban planning
Master planners usually say what size and where the building should be and when and at what speed an organization should grow.
5- Data Analyst & Scientist: Architects who understand data
And by processing the data of a project, they tell planners the amount and extent of many things
Usually, for this, companies have to find a data analyst who has worked as a data analyst for at least 5 years, or an architect who knows data and, for example, has worked on data in his doctorate.
6- Building scientists: any specialty that is necessary in our construction, for example, someone who is in charge of designing and analyzing the LEED process.
7- Technical Architect: The one who is in charge of detailing and project construction
8- Code Architect: The one who checks the building codes and says what should and shouldn’t be done
9- Spec Writer: Someone who helps to record all the materials of the project.
And the notebook (I don’t know its Farsi name) that produces all the materials for the luggage
10- Construction Admin:
The person who manages the project during construction (it is different from the construction manager) is the architect
11- Project Manager: An architect who handles the financial snakes of a project, paperwork and budgeting, or has 10 years of experience, or an architect who has studied project management.
12- Project Principal: He is the highest level of a project and his responsibility is to establish the main relationship with his colleagues on the side of the employer.
13- Drafter/intern Architect: the one who models everything and does production work
14- Project Architect: The main architect of the project who usually has big projects and others work in parallel or under them.
15- Special Consultant: Any consultant who advises the team
For example, think you want to build a hotel for Disney, there is a person who knows architecture and knows the Disney brand
Or do you want to design a hospital: a nurse/doctor who becomes an architect
16- R&D: Those who do research work in the company usually have a doctorate or have been in research since the beginning
As experts, they comment on the projects and communicate with the employer
