According to the head of Tehran University of Medical Sciences, assigning a suitable fee for a doctor who works in the public sector

According to the head of Tehran University of Medical Sciences, allocating a suitable fee for a doctor who works in the public sector will strengthen that sector and ultimately its benefits will reach the people.

The president of Tehran University of Medical Sciences emphasized that the salaries and wages of academic staff members of medical sciences universities should be increased and said: The trend of migration of doctors from the public sector to the private sector has increased and this will be harmful.

In an interview with ISNA, Dr. Hossein Zwanati said: My opinion is that the salaries and wages of academic staff members of medical sciences universities should be increased. Because the surgery performed by them in private hospitals is not comparable to public hospitals in terms of income, and I believe that doctors should have the same income in public and private hospitals.

He emphasized: “Unfortunately, in the current situation, there is a multifold difference between the salary of a surgeon in a private hospital and a public hospital, and the continuation of this process will cause the public sector to gradually run out of experienced doctors, and these people will go to the private sector.” be drawn

Dr. Zwanati noted: We must do something to increase the salary of doctors in the public sector and this will benefit the people. Because currently, the gradient of emigration of doctors abroad and the gradient of emigration of doctors from the public sector to the private sector has increased, and this will be harmful.  It is natural that a doctor who sees this difference in income prefers to leave the public university.

Further, in response to a question about the university’s plan to improve the status of resident students, he noted: Our plan to improve the status of residents was to be able to design the situation for resident students in such a way that they have an income equal to the income of a general practitioner. Because the person who becomes an assistant is about 28 years older than him and must be able to support his living expenses. On the other hand, with the costs that exist in Tehran today, it is practically impossible to cover these costs with the salaries that the assistants get.

The president of Tehran University of Medical Sciences pointed out: the grant of two to three million does not cover the expenses of assistant students in any way. We also believed that these students should earn as much as general doctors. This was despite the fact that these students did not receive allowances in the past. With the planning done and the new approvals, the assistants will also receive allowances, and the opinion of the Ministry of Health’s vice-chancellor is that these students will earn as much as a general practitioner.

He pointed out: Currently, the program for increasing the salary of assistantship students has been compiled and implemented in the Ministry of Health, and this decision will be implemented at the country level and includes all assistantship students.
