A free man thinks less about death than anything else, because his wisdom is not about death but about life.

A free man thinks less about death than anything else, because his wisdom is not a reflection on death but a reflection on life.
#Spinoza
From the book #Akhlaq, Part IV, Theorem 67

P.N.: Spinoza, in the proof of this case, says that a free man is one who lives according to the guidance of reason, not according to the guidance of fear. Is this statement of Spinoza contradictory to the statement that the fear of Corona is natural? In Spinoza, being natural has several meanings. The nature of man, the nature of things outside of man, and the composite nature of bodies. Man’s nature is inevitably the composite nature of bodies. Therefore, it is inevitable to be afraid. One of the reasons that fear of corona is natural is that humans are naturally afraid and it is not possible for a human being to have no fear. Second, in Theorem 59, Spinoza says that all the actions that a person does out of emotion (passivity) can be done exactly based on reason (actively). Therefore, the actions of humans are neither good nor evil by nature, but it depends on what the human has acted on? In other words, Spinoza defines not the values of good and evil, but the components of force. If a negative component is attached to an action, that action is passive and bad, if a positive component is assigned, that action is active and good. The example Spinoza gives is about punching. A person who raises his hand, makes a fist and lowers it violently: if we look at it based on his intellect and his natural physical ability, it is a virtue that he deserves according to the structure and capacity of the human body. But if he does the same thing out of anger or hatred, it is not a virtue, but a sad passivity that reduces the strength of the human body. So punching in itself is neither evil nor good, but depending on the component of the force it is related to, it is either positive or negative. In the same way, people’s avoidance of Corona and observing hygiene measures, keeping distance from each other, wearing masks, standing in line to buy masks and alcohol, etc., if it is based on fear or terror or hatred, it is negative, and if it is based on reason and the nature of the human body, it is negative. be positive But since according to this theory, a wise person does not think about death, but about life, therefore, even though he is not afraid of Corona, he still tries his best in the direction of life. Therefore, escaping from Corona, if it means trying to save one’s life, is the most natural and rational thing, and the opinion of those who despise people’s escape from Corona and consider it unphilosophical is not correct. In fact, for such people, philosophy is a reflection on death. Spinoza cancels the philosophy that reflects on death and knows nothing but stupidity and servitude. According to Spinoza, all paths to perfection end in the road of freedom, and freedom is nothing but the release of the forces that exist in human nature and must be freed. But fear and sad emotions prevent the release of these forces. For this reason, Spinoza’s philosophy has a direct relationship with “resistance” because whenever a person lives in a structure (social, a combination of bodies) in which fear rules and is forced to act based on fear, his wisdom leads him to stand and resist against these structures so that the way of freedom is not blocked. This is how Spinoza’s philosophy is a political philosophy from the beginning.
