Extinguishing forest fire has no economic justification

Is there no economic justification for extinguishing forest fire?

Mohammad Darvish

When the reporter of Organ Daulat newspaper asked the author’s opinion about the recent words of Issa Kalantari, I just found out that the story was true and that Iran’s highest authority in charge of the environment does not believe in protecting forests in the face of the danger of fire, nor does he have an economic justification for it. No, it is believed that the root of most fires in the fields of natural resources is affected by accidental or intentional human actions.

Honestly, with such a view, we should thank God that something called the forest can still be seen in the country. I wish Isa would find a police station. In the situation of Iran, no factor like the presence of dense forests can help in oxygen production, carbon sequestration, biodiversity, water and soil conservation, and control of floods and air pollution.

In fact, together with wetlands, forests are among the most valuable parts of the homeland, which cover only seven percent of Iran’s land. In such a way that the share of every Iranian is less than a quarter of the share of every citizen of the planet, i.e. eighteen hundred hectares. How is it possible that the official who should be the most compassionate and responsible person in protecting the country’s environmental property considers this kind of fire in the few remaining forests to be natural, normal and premeditated and asks the media not to deludedly look for the culprits? That too, in a situation where all experts consider human factors to be the cause of more than 90% of recent fires.

I wish Mr. Kalantari knew that only in the recent flood, more than 35 thousand billion Tomans were hit to the country’s economy and 14 thousand kilometers of roads were destroyed; A devastating event that would never have happened in such dimensions if our forest and pasture covers had not been sacrificed to unstable and unprincipled agriculture and animal husbandry and experimental changes of use.

With such an official at the head of the Environmental Protection Organization, isn’t it better to form a new institution called “Environmental Protection Organization” or “Environmental Protection Organization”?/Sharq
