– Faces of two women
The love stories “Khosro and Shirin” and “Lili and Majnoon” are both written by Nizami Ganjovi, a powerful Iranian poet.
The poem “Khosro and Shirin” is a love story in ancient Iran and it is a memory of a lover in his youth from a retired soldier named “Afaq”. In a way that no one has been able to sing like him in these eight hundred years. And “Lili and Majnoon” is the love story of two young people in Arab countries.
At the beginning of both stories, Nizami claims that he did not take possession of the original story.
In “Laili and Majnoon” Nizami unknowingly painted the face of a woman in the Arab world and in “Khosro and Shirin” he depicted the face of a woman in ancient Iran.
Lily is raised in a society that sees attachment as a prelude to perversion, the result of which is an inevitable descent into the horrible hell of prostitution. In this land of purity and piety, it is bad for a young boy and girl to exchange a look of interest.
But in Shirin land, there is no prohibition on the untainted companionship and association of men and women, and surprisingly, despite the freedom of association, the character of the girls is the guardian of their chastity.
A famous girl, alone and alone, sits on the back of a horse and runs from the navel of Armenia to the heart of Tisophon, and no one will attack her.
But Lily’s situation is not like that and her crimes are many. First of all, a woman is born deprived of any choice. Another sin is beauty. In the tribal system, her life and death is under the tyranny of men. Lily’s father is a powerful man who, when he finds out about the relationship between Qays (mad) and his daughter, imprisons her in the fence of his house, and her jailer is a high-flying woman named Mother, who is forced to cut off her daughter’s relationship with the outside world by her husband’s inexorable command.
But the story of “Khosro and Shirin” is different. The sweet world is the world of carelessness. Shirin is the handmaiden of a woman who, according to Nizami, “has more strength than men.” Shirin is an energetic, nature-loving sportswoman who rides a time-traveling horse and goes to play polo with a group of girls of the same age who are “not bound by burqas” and each of them is familiar with riding and self-defense techniques.
A girl who is proud of her most natural and legitimate right in such an environment, i.e. choosing her husband, is not hindered by any obstacles.
Next to her lover Khosrow, Shirin rides horses, goes out for fun, negotiates, sets terms and conditions and takes points and keeps her chastity at all times.
And the other side of life is Lily’s surrender. Free of any effort. They take her away from school and imprison her in her house and give her to an unpleasant husband without protesting.
This is a picture of the position of women in the Arab tribal system and the position of women in Iran.
