Sandblasting Pavement damage

Sandblasting #pavement_damage

Grinding refers to the separation of stone material grains from the pavement asphalt, which usually starts from the sides of the pavement and progresses towards the inner points of the asphalt.

Factors of sanding phenomenon:
1- Implementation of asphalt procedure in cold or wet weather
2- Delay and insufficient compaction of asphalt surfaces
3- Using contaminated or less durable materials in the asphalt top layer
4- Lack of amount of bitumen used in asphalt mixture
5- Overheating the asphalt concrete mixture during baking
6- The softening of the pavement surface and the displacement of grains due to oiling
8- Not using a rubber wheel roller to beat the surface asphalt
9- Existence of a porous and absorbent bitumen surface under the asphalt layer
10- Opening the way for the use of vehicles before the bitumen hardens

Repair:
First, the coarse-grained sand that has been heated and its temperature has reached more than 150 degrees Celsius should be spread on the road surface and then immediately pounded using rubber wheel rollers. The implementation of this operation must be done in warm weather so that the grains of stone materials adhere well to the bituminous coating before it cools down.
