Apologize; Regarding the debate with Mr. Khosrow Mo’tazad February 5, 1399
Before any other words, I sincerely apologize to all my friends, including Mr. Motazad himself, for my rude behavior in the debate with him. What I am writing is not in any way trying to justify inappropriate behavior. But the main story:
1- Three years ago, a person whom I did not know called and said that they are trying to make a series about Reza Shah. I said that you know that I do not agree with the government’s view of Reza Shah. My views about Reza Shah cannot be broadcast on TV. They said that the producer is a private institution and we have no intention of producing a program favored by the regime. Therefore, we do not invite historians and well-known figures against Reza Shah Bana. In the end, they said that they are the producer of Mr. Behrouz Afkhami’s collection.
2- Filming was done during four days, intensively, in a studio that belonged to the “artistic field” until after midnight. More than twenty programs about all aspects of Reza Shah’s era, from the coup d’etat of March 3rd to Shahrivar 1320.
3- Apart from me, there were about 6-7 other people who without exception were against, and in the best case, they were staunch critics of Reza Shah. I may have attended more than ten shows in three days. In all the programs, it was my job to defend Reza Shah against the official government narrative. I myself believe that my job was more than defending Reza Shah, it was to show the distortions of the government narrative surrounding Reza Shah.
4- I wish it would end sooner because the debates had become an interrogation mode for me. All the time and in every part, I had to show how the government’s narrative is, at best, an incomplete narrative and only aimed at condemning Reza Shah.
5- It was the last night when Mr. Afkhami said that we did not have Mr. Motazad in the program, but his friends think that we should have a conversation with him. I know you are really tired, but this is what I ask of you. You know the rest of the story.
6- I don’t know how much Mr. Behrouz Afkhami and others received. But I am happy that despite Khan Mirza’s protests, I did not receive a single Rial.
7- Radio and fundamentalists are right, I am illiterate. But my book about Reza Shah, which was not allowed to be published, is alive and present. I wish the literate state writers and historians could show one item of that book that is contrary to reality.
