The writer’s experience from the Dubai Embassy
This post is very important for friends who want to apply to America!
We went two days before the time of the embassy so that there would be no stress in the new environment and so on. We also chose our hotel very close to the embassy so that on the day of the interview we walked and I think it was not more than five minutes away. Our time was 8:30 in the morning, but the time doesn’t really mean much. First you stand in a line, they take your passport and bring it in, then they send you to the embassy yard, where you sit on benches in groups of three. Embassy building. There, you stand in another line until you reach the place where you are asked to put a series of documents in a folder (if I remember correctly, DS, I20 form, research plan and for boys their military service) you will see a lady, she will check it, and send it to you again. In the new queue, you will be fingerprinted, then you will go to the last queue, which is the interview queue.
On the day we went, there were three people, one lady who accepted the tourists almost together and rejected the studies as far as I could see (my sister was also rejected with her and the girl after her was even full fund and was rejected). A man with black hair that I saw had accepted and his interviews were very detailed; And a man with brown hair (whom I was with and he gave on the spot) who asked very strict questions and seemed to have a problem with self-funds, he generally rejected them, but he was very ok with full funds and especially the field of art.
I was with Mr. Mu Jogandamieh, he didn’t ask me any of the usual questions (why do you want to leave, why do you want to come back, etc.).
He said what is your job, I said editing
What is your father’s job?
I said that there is a school and explained it first
What is your sister doing?
I said he works in the hospital.
He said where is he now? Iran or here? (My sister had an interview with me exactly one day, and our plan was that they wouldn’t understand)
I tried to put it together, I said no, we came here as a family
Did he also apply?
(I drank the cup of poison again) I said: Yes
He shot the last shot and said is he here now?
I said yes and asked to show it to him
He asked, is he the same major as you? I said no, it’s medical engineering.
Then he asked if he was coming to Iowa (the state I was going to), I said no, Detroit, Michigan, which turned out to be OK.
Where did you work before? I said studio {.}.
He started searching Studio {.} and asked me to spell
He asked me if the studio is famous?
I said yes, Asghar Farhadi had given his film there for color correction
He said that Asghar Farhadi is a famous person?
I said, gentlemen, he has two Oscars
He laughed (he was a very serious man, we were all scared of this booth) he said sorry, I don’t know him very well, then he found the studio and said the manager is Mr. Farhad?
He waited for me to say his last name, I said {.}, he nodded (he wanted to make sure that I am not lying, I think)
Then he asked, is this Farhad {.} the one who has an Oscar?
I said no and I explained to him that it is color correction and he asked what color correction is and I explained this
In short, he asked a lot about my work and it was interesting to him, even in the end when he said that you got a visa, he said if I can give your contact to some of our friends here who are interested in Iran issues, they can talk to you, because here they are generally engineering and so on. But your background is interesting.
In short, if you try to be nervous with that man, he will ask a lot of questions, he only speaks English, but it is logical, if not, try to be with that man with curly black hair, he seems to be kinder.
