I think it depends a lot on you. Anyway, everyone has interests and talents that determine which path to choose. On the other hand, your resume, the skills and subjects you worked on in your master’s degree, and most importantly, the subject of your master’s thesis. All this together makes your luck.
To be honest, there is a lot of research going on in architecture, which to some extent depends on the country, region and university. But according to my experience, for example, as far as the introduction of research fields in architecture, I can say that the topics related to energy are on the market for several years and it seems that they will be for at least several more years. Because we are far from the goals set for 2035 and 2050. In this field, for example, topics related to zero energy and positive energy, energy flexibility and renewable energy have always been popular.
The field of work close to these topics, but more related to design, can be called passive design or climate-adaptive design. These topics also expand to specific climates and climate changes.
Discussions related to thermal and visual comfort and overall occupancy comfort have always been important and have been used as an evaluation for some time.
Another topic on the stock market is decarbonization or zero carbon. Construction with the least amount of carbon produced and maintenance and use of the building with the least possible carbon.
Another hot topic, which is more or less related to the previous one, is the life cycle assessment of the building or (LCA). A lot of work is being done on this topic, which is mostly related to recycling and reuse of different parts of the building.
In Canada, Scandinavia, Switzerland and Austria, construction with wood is also a very new topic and they are working on prefabrication and digitalization of the construction process. You can search with the title of timber construction.
And in general, in all these fields, programming and mastery of specific software for each field, especially open source software, has expanded a lot. If you are interested, learn it as soon as possible. In fields such as smart buildings, which are definitely needed, but also in the other topics that I mentioned, it is still used a lot and there is a lot of room for improvement in the future.
These were the fields that I had in mind now and I think they will have good conditions in a few years. However, there are many fields of work and it is definitely not limited to this.
