Government grants for newcomers with permanent residence
Canada (Ontario
Child Tax Benefit
This government grant consists of two parts. Universal child care benefit (UCCB) and Canada child tax benefit (CCTB). The sum of these two will be deposited into your account on a monthly basis. The amount depends on many items that can be affected. Like last year’s income, your child’s age, your province of residence and so on.
The higher your income, the lower the amount that the government will help you with. Although incomes up to $30,000 per year or even more are considered low income in Canada. This money can be withdrawn without any restrictions (its amount is about $580 per month for children under 6 years old in Ontario), which is reduced a bit as the child’s age increases and the parents’ income increases.
GST/HST Credit
In Canada, you have to pay tax on the purchase of all your supplies and necessities (except for raw food) as well as all the services you receive, and the amount of this tax is different in each province. But the Canadian government returns a part of the tax you have paid according to your previous year’s income. This tax refund is actually an allowance intended for you and is directly deposited into your account every three months.
Ontario Energy and Property Tax Credit
Another example of Canada’s government services and grants is the payment of energy bills for those immigrants who are renters. If you have registered only once for one of the previous government subsidies, you do not need to register to receive this subsidy and the government will deposit these amounts for you. This amount is roughly calculated and in Ontario, approximately $70 per month is deposited into your account.
Free Furniture
These services are carried out under the supervision of charity organizations and institutions, and they often receive funds from the government or personal donations.
You can go to these centers and ask them for free furniture. Of course, you should not expect a classic and steel sofa. This help is recommended for people who plan to stay in Canada for a short time and return after getting a PR card. Or friends who do not want to spend money on furniture in the first year due to financial reasons. All furniture in this collection is second-hand, but mostly clean and usable. In addition, people who want to change furniture can also help these institutions by donating their old furniture.
Trillium Drug Plan
In Canada, medical, surgical and hospital expenses are completely free, but one of the things that insurance does not cover is the cost of medicine.
The government has a plan called TDP to support all sections of the people, especially the low-income group
Healthy Smile
Healthy smile program is for dental checkup of children under 17 years of age, which provides dental services for free. Since the Canadian government attaches great importance to children, it has created this program to check children’s oral and dental health conditions. This program is one of the Canadian government’s plans for low-income families. According to this program, children’s teeth can be examined and if they need treatment and filling, they can be done for free to some extent.
Unison
In the first quarter of immigration, because you have not received your health OHIP card yet and you are not insured, if something happens to you, the medical expenses without insurance are very, very heavy. You have two options, if you have a specific health problem or fear of causing problems in these three months, it is better to get travel insurance before coming to Canada. But if your health conditions are normal, you can use this program, which is completely free
