18 July, a bloody memory of a saga that is still alive

25 years have passed since July 18, 1378, but still, when the calendar reaches this date, they suddenly stop. Many of the students of those days have turned gray today and look at their past and the system that even with the passage of years cannot hide the self-evident fear of this day. There are many images left from the bloody days of 1978. The days when the university and students were bloodied again after nearly two decades of cultural revolution (destruction).

Along with hundreds of people arrested, injured and killed, someone like “Akram Naqabi” has been searching for 24 years to find a sign of his son’s grave or to hand over the personal belongings of his son, Saeed Zainali. Where is Saeed Zainali?

10 years later in 2008, along with prisons and security detention centers, torture centers such as “Kahrizak” and “Information Safe Houses” also gained another meaning. They were killed in “Kahrizak cages”.

In the meantime, two honorable doctors of Kehrizak were killed for standing up against the denial of all kinds of torture, fractured skulls, pulling nails, crushing of spines and assaulting the detainees present in Kehrizak, after months of death threats.
“Dr. Ramin Pourandarjani” was killed by drug poisoning on November 19, 2008, and “Dr. Alireza Soodbakhsh” was killed on 30 September, 2009 by unknown people, in front of his article.

“Alia Matalzadeh”, a photographer and women’s rights activist, has recorded a series of photos from the day of July 18, 1978 and the destruction of the entire length of the university.

The wall of students’ writings and the blood left on the walls of the rooms, as if it is a visual history of resistance that reproduces parallel to repressions and killings, in a timeless situation.

Our Iran has countless bloody days after July 18, 1978 in its history calendar, black days in 1988, 1996, 1998, the crash of the Ukrainian plane and the revolution of 1401…

And we neither forget nor forgive. We are not indifferent because Iran is our land!

Solidarity is the only way to win!
We will be more connected every day!
We will plant the tree of revolution

All for one, one for all

Call for Revolution in Iran
