Lack of gas and a repeated cycle!/ Do the authorities choose the hard way or the easy way?!
Hamidreza Shokohi
We are witnessing a repeated cycle in Iran! Gas consumption in Iran in winter is more than production. In fact, gas production does not provide enough for consumption. Why?
There are three reasons:
1⃣ Due to the embargo, we are having problems both in terms of providing financial resources and in terms of attracting new technology for the development of gas fields, and gas production in the country is not only not increasing, but in the coming years, due to the drop in gas pressure, we have to expect a decrease in production. to be
2. Due to the focus on gas as the most important source of energy in the country during the last three decades, the need for gas in the country has increased every day. This is while other countries do not rely on gas as much as Iran, and this is the reason why it is wrong to compare Iran’s gas consumption with the European Union or countries like Turkey. Because electricity is a more important resource there than gas.
3⃣ Optimizing energy consumption in our country is not taken seriously and it is limited to writing rules on paper. The easiest thing is to accuse people of high gas consumption. Of course, the culture of using gas in our country is not a correct culture, but have the right steps been taken to create a culture? Are the laws that have been developed regarding the optimization of fuel consumption in buildings properly implemented to prevent energy wastage? Do the gas heaters used in our country have a suitable standard? Do the power plants and industries that use gas have a consumption commensurate with the standard consumption? The answer to all these questions is negative! But still we expect savings!
What should we do now that due to the above three reasons, the production of gas in the country is not sufficient for the consumption? We have two ways:
1⃣ An easier way: in the second half of the year, whenever domestic gas consumption rises, we should cut off gas to industries and power plants and even petrochemical complexes and give them diesel and fuel oil so that domestic gas is not cut off. If the air becomes polluted due to the increase in consumption of alternative gas fuels, it is not a problem! We will close schools and even universities for a few days and wait for wind and rain! When the weather gets warmer, everyone remembers that the air was polluted and next year we will blame others!
2⃣ The harder way: We will strengthen clean public transportation with subways and gas-powered buses, as well as gas-powered and hybrid taxis, and investment in electric taxis; We produce the gasoline and diesel needed by the country in accordance with the current world standards; Energy wastage in buildings and power plants. we reduce We promote the culture of energy consumption among people with a detailed program; And most importantly, by trying to lift the embargo and attract financial and technological resources, we will increase gas production in a country with the second richest gas reserves in the world.
Now do you think the authorities will choose the easier way or the harder way?! The answer is clear!
And this is how this repeated cycle continues in the country.
