Zakat al-Fitr
1. According to most scholars, Zakat al-Fitr is obligatory for children and adults, and the head of the family can pay it even on behalf of his wife. It is recommended to give zakat on behalf of a fetus (an unborn child) and the best time to pay it is between the morning prayer on the day of Eid and the Eid prayer.
2. It is permissible to pay Zakat al-Fitr earlier, one day or two days before Eid, as it has been narrated from the Companions, but delaying it after the Eid prayer invalidates it, like delaying the morning prayer after sunrise [which causes it becomes invalid] unless it is due to an excuse, such as forgetting.
3. Zakat al-Fitr should be paid from the main food of that land. It means food that is often consumed in that land as lunch or dinner, such as rice or wheat flour [which is used in baking bread]. Therefore, it is not correct to expel food that is not used there as the main food, even if it is used in another land.
4. In zakat al-fitr, the food used by people may change depending on the time, and today it is not correct to give barley and dates as zakat al-fitr, although the names of these two foods are mentioned in the hadith, because nowadays barley flour is used [as the main food]. It is not possible and dates are mostly used as a fruit rather than a main food.
5. Scholars agree that it is a tradition to give Zakat al-Fitr in the form of food, but there is a difference of opinion as to whether it is permissible to give it in cash. A group of people have considered it permissible to give the cash price in advance, but the caution is that it should be paid in the form of food.
6. It is better for family members to pay their zakat al-fitr if they are financially capable, like children who are working, but if their father pays their zakat al-fitr, it is permissible.
7. It is better for a person to give his zakat al-fitr in the same place where he lives, but if there is a needy land, it is permissible to send it, and if it is not possible to send it in the form of food, it is permissible to send it in cash. .
8. It is obligatory for a person to pay Zakat al-Fitr in the amount of one Sa’a. It is also permissible for a Sa’a to consist of two different foods, provided that the deserving person can use that food together or separately.
9. Giving zakat al-fitr to servants and workers is in two ways:
First: If their food is based on a contract with the employer, it is not permissible to give them Zakat al-Fitr.
Second: If their food is on their own, it is permissible to give them their zakat al-fitr.
