A look at the world’s top universities in which countries?
Oxford University has been recognized as the best university in the world according to the latest ranking of the Times Higher Education Institute, and this is the first time that a university outside the United States has been included in this ranking. 980 top universities in the world have been introduced in this ranking. But what is the distribution of these universities in the countries?
According to the correspondent of Anna News Agency’s university group from MyRepublica, the top 980 universities in this ranking are only 5% of the higher education institutions in the world, and 79 countries are represented in this list. The distribution of universities is not the same at all. North American universities dominate this ranking. In the last 12 years, the university of no country except the United States was ranked first, and American universities have always held most of the first to tenth ranks.
148 American universities are present in this ranking and 63 universities are among the first 200 universities.
Europe
The UK is home to the largest number of top universities in Europe, with 91 institutions on the list. This country is the only country other than America that has more than one university among the top ten universities in the world.
Another country that opened its way among the top 10 universities with one university is Switzerland. ATH Zurich University is ranked ninth in the world and 9 other Swiss universities are present in this ranking.
Germany, Italy, France and Spain have more than 26 universities in the ranking, but according to the explanation provided by the Times Higher Education Institute along with the ranking, the status of Europeans in this ranking is deteriorating because Asians are growing rapidly.
Asia
Although Western universities still hold high rankings, Asian institutions have also entered the playing field. A total of 289 Asian universities from 24 countries are included in the ranking. Their presence among the top 200 universities has increased from 15 last year to 19.
The best performance among Asian universities is the National University of Singapore, which is in 24th place and has risen two places compared to the previous year.
China has more than 50 universities in this ranking, and their leading institution, Peking University, has reached 29th place from 42nd place a year ago.
Among Asian countries, Japan has the most representatives in this ranking with 69 universities. The University of Tokyo has the best ranking among Japanese universities, the University of Tokyo, which has risen from 40th to 39th.
Likewise, Hong Kong has 5 universities out of the top 200 universities in the world. This statistic can be compared with the Chinese statistics and better understood. Only 4 out of 52 Chinese universities are ranked among the top 200 universities in the world, and Japan has only two representatives in these rankings.
After America and England, Germany and the Netherlands are the universities that have the largest number of universities among the best universities in the world
