Accumulation in the stomach
This disease can occur in all ages of ostriches, and if not treated early, it will cause the death of the animal.
Cause:
1- The insufficiency of wood materials in the animal’s diet, in which case the hungry animal eats foreign materials such as sand-pebbles and branches, which causes accumulation in the stomach.
2- Too much fiber or long stem for young chickens causes accumulation of stomach and intestines, of course, if this food is given to adults and there are no pebbles next to them, it will also occur in them.
3- The lack of minerals causes the swallowing of soil-sand, which eventually causes accumulation in the stomach and intestines.
4- Not eating fodder well for chickens causes accumulation in the stomach and intestines.
5- Giving old food causes accumulation in the stomach and intestines.
7- Giving a large amount of green food to hungry chickens and birds causes accumulation in the stomach and intestines, so we should first feed them with nutritious food and then give them green fodder. The symptoms of infected chickens are not gaining weight and they are growing slowly – defecation is done with great effort and pressure – loss of body water – the animal pecks at food but does not eat anything from it (anorexia).
Treatment:
1- To find out the accumulation, we have to touch the left side of the back area up to the sternum blade.
2-Using medical paraffin – barium sulfate and lactose orally
3- If it is acute, remove the material through surgery
prevention
1- Reducing stress 2- Removing foreign objects from the bed of the nest 3- Easy access for the bird to the food 4- Making the food interesting for the bird 5- Proper feeding 6- Presence of pebbles 7- Replacing the silent cover in the movement and running area in order to Reducing stress 8- Full compliance with health and management principles
