Being Ali (pbuh) or being Muawiyah; This is the problem in politics
Ali Abazari
God forbid Ali! This is the sentence that Mu’awiya is quoted as having uttered when he was faced with the criticism and protest of a woman.
Apart from the attempt of the Umayyads to make it customary to curse the Commander of the Faithful, Ali (a.s.), this sentence has another more important meaning, and that is that God curses the one who made the people so arrogant and demanding towards their rulers!
At the end of his short reign of several years, he said about the welfare of the people of Kufa: The people of Kufa have canopies and eat wheat bread and Euphrates water. It means that he has created prosperity and removed poverty from the face of the city as much as possible.
In helping the needy, His Holiness did not just carry a bag on his shoulder, but as Imam Sadiq (a.s.) said years later, he believed that the best help is to make a person needless, not to leave the needy alone after a short help. May it be a new day and a new need!
It has been said that the Imam shouted many times in the market, people; Poverty is a big death!
The institutionalization of this zeal and justice-seeking efforts in the field of politics and society was while that Imam was in the most complicated and difficult political situations of the Islamic society. In such a way that even the most insightful people were mistaken in observing the reality of what is happening. There are many quotes from the Imam’s friends and relatives in their dealings with Muawiyah, the ruler of the Levant, who advised temporary and deceitful tolerance with him. These quotes show that these advisors neither knew Muawiyah’s deception well nor Imam’s chivalry and sharpness.
However, in expressing the excruciating difficulties that tormented Sharif’s existence, the most important thing was his confrontation with those who were among the Muslims themselves!
The Prophet of Islam faced infidels and hypocrisy did not find the necessary time and context to emerge during his time, but history placed Imam Ali (a.s.) in a position where he had to stand against the claimants of Islam! The claimants who drew their swords against him for God’s pleasure and finally split his difference with their holy ignorance.
He himself was well aware of this important historical situation and knew the important role he was playing. That was the reason why he said that no one but me had the ability to uncover these seditions.
More than a thousand years have passed since that turbulent era, but the legacy that Imam Ali (AS) left behind in politics and government seems to have forever drawn a clear line for the world’s justice seekers. A border that clearly shows whether we are standing on the side of Ali (pbuh) or Muawiya
