Certification of documents from other countries by German institutions and courts are often approved and accepted only if their authenticity or citation value is verified through a special process.

Verification of documents
Documents from other countries are often approved and accepted by German institutions and courts only if their authenticity or reference value is confirmed through a special process. Iranian documents (for example, birth certificate or marriage certificate) for use by German institutions must be presented in a certified form in many cases.
Note that the relevant process in Iran is an alternative process of certification. First, the document must be translated into German by an official translator. The list of official translators can be found here: https://sanam.ekfam.ir/Home/TranslatorList

If there is any doubt about the authenticity of the document or if the content of the document is clearly incorrect, it is possible to reject this authentication alternative.
Note: Only official documents can be authenticated.

5 steps for the alternative method of certifying documents in Iran:
1. To certify an official document, you translate it into German by a translator.
     Important:
The name of the translator must be mentioned in the list prepared by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Iran (https://sanam.ekfam.ir/Home/TranslatorList). They sometimes offer to get the necessary initial approvals from the Ministry of Justice and Foreign Affairs of Iran for you by charging a fee. If you accept this offer, you can skip step 2.
2. You first go to the Ministry of Justice of Iran and then to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Iran (Department of Document Verification) and get the documents first approved. Please note that no more than one year has passed since the initial approval.

3. You try to get an appointment from the service company that cooperates with the German Embassy in Tehran (Visametric) to perform the alternative process of document verification by the embassy. Visametric calculates and collects the document verification service fee. Also, the cost of document certification will be charged by the embassy. Please be informed about the related costs in advance.

4. You, on the appointed date, with all the necessary documents (original documents and translations with initial approvals) at the Visametric reception center (address: Khaled Islamboli St. (Ministers St.), No. 137, Shiraz Building, corner of 21st St., No. 137, 15139 Tehran). Please don’t forget to bring enough cash in Euros to cover visametric and embassy fees (due to the issue of change, if possible, please the exact same amount). Please inform in advance about the relevant costs.).

Please bring a valid ID card for entry control.
Please also bring a letter in English explaining why you need to certify the documents.
