Collective protest statement of the country’s cultural heritage experts against the destructive actions in the historical context of Shiraz
Rumors of the beginning of a new round of destruction in the valuable historical context of Shiraz, which has been started for several decades under the pretext of developing the shrine of Hazrat Shahcheragh (AS) and creating a communication route between this shrine and two other holy shrines, has created a wave of concern among the cultural heritage lovers of this land. is
Such an action is being carried out by taking advantage of religious concepts, and the coexistence of these shrines with the surrounding historical context for centuries has been an expression of this tradition that in our past culture, there was never a distance between the holy places and people’s homes, and as people in their daily lives have had a close relationship with the world of meaning, this closeness and connection in the body of the city has also shown itself with continuity; But today, as a distance is created between people and spirituality, the guardians of the matter also fuel this separation by destroying the valuable residential contexts around the holy shrines, which is an example of the disastrous actions taken in the historical context of Mashhad.
If it is possible to use the capacity of valuable buildings located in such contexts to meet the needs of pilgrims and tourists instead of these destructive measures; But unfortunately, today’s physical changes are a reflection of incorrect cultural planning, which will have no result other than the destruction of the rich cultural manifestations of this land, confronting different classes of people and creating dissatisfaction among them.
Unfortunately, despite the efforts made in the past years in order to prevent such destructive actions by the Ministry of Cultural Heritage, Tourism and Handicrafts, currently all these unfortunate events are taking place not only with silence but also with the support of this Ministry.
At the same time, we as a group of experts of the Deputy Ministry of Cultural Heritage of the country – as the main custodian of the protection of historical tissues – due to the lack of review and approval of the said plan in this Deputy Ministry in accordance with the usual legal procedure and also due to the direction of the plan in the direction of destroying part of the identity Historically and culturally of this land, we express our clear opposition to such actions and acquit ourselves of the decisions taken.
It is worth mentioning that the Research Institute of Cultural Heritage and Tourism, which participated as a representative of this ministry in making decisions regarding the implementation of this project, is an institution of research nature and according to the duties stated in its constitution, it cannot replace the deputy of the country’s cultural heritage in such matters.
‼ Therefore, while requesting all those concerned in the field of culture not to remain silent against illegal procedures with harmful results, we request the honorable Minister of Cultural Heritage, Handicrafts and Tourism to issue an order to immediately stop any destructive action, to return to the legal procedure of investigating the matter, to respect expert opinions and We are moving in line with the main goal of the ministry to protect the valuable cultural heritage of the country.
