Ferdowsi is not just a narrator of history/ a wise man is not fooled by the world
The story of the life of Iraj, Fereydoun’s little son, is one of the saddest stories in the Shahnameh and one of the top and saddest tragedies in the world. Aristotle believes that in a sad drama and tragedy, the actions of people should be shown, not their morals, and show that the suffering that befalls people is the obvious result of their actions. What actions of a person are the result of his morals and character.
The story of Iraj and the brothers is a description of the jealousy that the older brothers have for the younger brother, and this bad idea makes them do an ugly and evil act. This story is also found in the old sources of the Pahlavi period, but from the language and in the environment of Ferdowsi’s thought, it reached the Farsi of the Islamic period.
Fereydon is one of the unsung kings of Iranian history. On the verge of old age, he decides to divide the administration of the vast country of Iran among his three children; Children who are each on their own and a secretary. His eldest son “Salem” is clever and timid; The middle child “Tor” is bold and stupid and the youngest child “Iraj” is wise and courageous. To these three children, respectively, he gives the rulership of Rome, Turan, and Iran, and Iran, which is a good part of Fereydon’s territory and his capital, becomes Iraj’s share. Perhaps this is why Nizami said:
“All the world is the body and Iran is the heart”
Mehter’s brothers criticize their father’s work and harbor a grudge against Iraj and call him to their group with a conspiracy. Iraj, who did not play a role in Fereydoun’s decision, and goes to them with benevolence and good thinking, and suffers a sad fate, is killed painfully, and his brothers bear the shame of fratricide and sow the seeds of hatred for a long time; A seed from which, from time to time, in the history of Iran, an ominous fruit has been picked and it has started bloody wars.
Fereydoun, who is waiting for his beloved child to return from a trip, faces a terrible scene:
Fereydoun has seen two things on the way
The army and the desired hat of the king
Hyuna came out of the darkness
Sitting on him is a pain in mourning
A loud roar and a mournful heart
One of his coffins is on the side
He pulled out of the coffin like a stuffed animal
Iraj’s head was cut off
He fell from Afridon’s horse to the ground
The army was torn apart
It became black, and the vision became white
that seeing was different from hope
(Story of Fereydoun, verses 530 to 537)
Iraj’s tragic death caused Fereydoun to suffer a lot and to take revenge on Salem and Tor by Manouchehr, Iraj’s granddaughter.
Ferdowsi, as always, is not just an observer and narrator of history, and he does not fail to give advice and wisdom, and to express lessons and advice:
Let it be like this for us
If he wants to kidnap Cho, he pretends to be
Take yourself to the stamp of the age of speculation
No, it was good, really in the bow!
If you make him an enemy, he will love you
If you don’t read it as a friend, don’t see it
I will give you one advice:
You should wash your heart from the seal of Gati

Ferdowsi considers the nature of the world sad. At all, “Getty” is fundamentally different from “Mino”. The world is like a crooked bow for which truth is not a good attribute. Misbehavior is the characteristic of this world, and it is not permissible for the wise to be deceived and held tight by it.
Ferdowsi’s final advice is not to encourage abandoning the world, because man is bound to live in the world, but he does not consider it wise to be attached to it, and based on belief and test, he considers it worthy and wise to try to “mine” Giti and achieve immortality. According to Ferdowsi, since the secret of Giti is not revealed to its people, there is a place to cry when it is revealed:
I don’t know who your friend is
You should cry for this revelation!
