Grand Ayatollah Khamenei (Dom Magdeh)
With greetings
Respectfully, as you have mentioned and it is obvious to everyone, one of the most proud achievements of the holy system of the Islamic Republic is the improvement of health indicators in all dimensions and aspects of health, which was realized with the development of Islamic infrastructure such as universities of medical sciences and the country’s health and treatment network. The life of the dear people of our country increased from 51.5 years in 1357 to 76.68 years in 1399.
In the current situation, thanks to the blessings of the Islamic Revolution, more than 17,000 health centers, 5,000 comprehensive health service centers, 3,000 emergency centers, 155,000 hospital beds, and more than 148,000 general practitioners and specialists are at the disposal of the country’s health system. Many specialized and sub-specialized hospitals are engaged in providing services in all parts of the country, witnessing a more than 10-fold reduction in the death rate of pregnant mothers and children under 5 years of age, more than 90% of people having access to sanitary water, reducing the number of patients sent to less than 5 times a year, we perform more than 60,000 cases of bone marrow, kidney, liver, lung, heart, cornea, skin, pancreas, intestine and joint transplants, which shows the national determination to eradicate the disease from the Iranian society, which is carried out by experts. The service of the country’s health department has been established.
However, what caused this incident is the occurrence of a phenomenon that has seriously threatened the country’s health system in the last few years, and that threat is the decreasing trend of the number of specialized medical personnel in the country’s health structure. Unfortunately, in recent years, the desire to continue studying in specialized and subspecialized assistantships in various medical fields has faced a significant decrease, and this decrease in the interest of general physicians to take over seats in specialized and subspecialized fields is extremely high in quantity, quality, and speed. And the accuracy of health care services and its continuity and development have had and will have a side effect, so that since 2016, the alarm of this incident has been raised by the vacancy of specialist seats in some major fields such as anesthesiology, emergency medicine, general surgery, internal medicine, pediatrics, Infectious, heart surgery, pediatric surgery, kidney subspecialty, blood and cancer have been reported at an alarming rate.
Another worrisome issue that accelerates this process is the departure of doctors from being members of academic staff to non-academic staff. At the same time, unfortunately, we are also facing an increase in requests for immigration abroad. All these cases lead to the preservation of all the extraordinary achievements of the health sector, which is well-known and special, is at risk, and due to the weak interest of general doctors to continue their studies in specialized fields, the issue of sending patients abroad, recruiting and employing them. Foreign doctors who were excluded due to the principled policies and efforts of the health workers; With the continuation of the current trend, God forbid it revives and disrupts the access of our dear people to specialized health services, in all parts of the country and confronts the health system with dangerous challenges.
