How the only branch of Harvard University in Iran was changed to Imam Sadegh University

Poya Bakhtiari

1340s was one of the most golden economic decades in Iran
A time when we saw single-digit inflation and good economic growth
During this period, large industries were formed and many factories were established
Mino, national shoes, iron smelting, tractors and…
Everyone walked in that era.

With the growth and development of these industries, entrepreneurs and industrialists thought about training the next generation and tried to train good managers.

In 1348, Habib Lajurdi, in collaboration with Mohammad Taghi, started an educational institution in Tehran under the name “Iranian Management Studies Center”. This center was the only branch of Harvard in Iran.

The purpose of establishing this collection was to train a new generation of managers and experts who are familiar with the world’s modern sciences, find a good management perspective so that they can be a reliable management arm in organizations and industries.

It was a non-governmental institution and was governed by a board of trustees, which consisted of twelve prominent entrepreneurs and industrial managers.

Elders like Siavash Arjmand (Arj Group),
Hedayatullah Behbahani (General Company),
Khosrowshahi (Mino),
Mahmoud Rezaei (Cos Sarchesheme),
Abdul Ali Farmanfarmaian (Pars Oil)

He was a member of the board of trustees of this university.

After the 1957 revolution, the properties and factories of many industrialists and economic activists were confiscated.

With the confiscation of the properties of Lajurdi and Bahdari and some other members of the board of trustees and the escape of these people outside of Iran, the Harvard Institute was also taken over.

With the capture of Harvard, the name of the institution was changed to Imam Sadegh University, and its management was given to Mohammad Reza Mahdavi Keni.

Mahdavi Kenny changed the educational system of the university in such a way that the university education model became a combination of new sciences and seminary sciences.

The goal of Imam Sadegh University was to train graduates with high scientific ability in one of the new university fields along with religious knowledge for managing the country.

So that people can work in important management positions in the country after graduating from this university.

Today, in the board of trustees of Imam Sadegh, industrialists and economic activists are not seen, in the Harvard Institute in the 50s, management courses were taught under the supervision of Harvard University faculty members.
But today, this university is governed mostly by academic supervision and not scientific supervision, most of the courses were taught in English at that time, and now the role of Arabic is more colorful.

Harvard University is considered one of the best educational institutions in the world, and the graduates of this university are people like Obama, Bill Gates, Sandberg, and Maryam Mirzakhani.

But Imam Sadiq University does not have a high scientific rank and degree, the graduates of this university are people like Saeed Jalili, Ali Bagheri and Hojat Abdul Maliki, who generally hold important management positions in different governments.

One thousand and one tips from the industry
