If you are taking medicine and intend to travel, and if your medicine contains drugs or special formulas are used.

If you are taking medicine and intend to travel, and if your medicine contains drugs or special formulas are used:

When entering or leaving Britain, you must prove that this medicine has been prescribed by your doctor for your treatment and personal use.

Carrying some medicines to some countries is illegal and the traveler can be fined or even jailed. Please contact the embassy of that country in London first if you are taking medication and intend to travel. In the link below, you can find the list of all embassies in London:

Before traveling, please ask your doctor or your local pharmacy whether the medicine you are taking contains controlled drugs or not.

Also, you can find out from the packaging of your medicine what kind of solution was used, and is that solution included in the list of controlled drugs? You can access this list through the following link:

https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/controlled-drugs-list2/list-of-most-commonly-encountered-drugs-currently-controlled-under-the-misuse-of-drugs-legislation

Please note that in the above list, only the materials or solutions used to prepare the medicine are mentioned.

In order to prove that the medicine belongs to you and you are carrying it with you for personal use, you may need to bring your doctor’s letter with you when you enter or leave the British border. In this letter you should:
1. Your name is registered.
2. Your destination and travel date must be written.
3. The complete list of medicines should be explained along with the dosage.
4. The letter must be stamped and signed.

If the quantity of your medicine is large or you intend to travel for more than 3 months and you have to carry the necessary medicine for this period with you, you must apply for a permit to carry medicine.

You can use the link below to apply for a license to carry medicine:

https://assets.publishing.service.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/573227/Personal_Licence_Template_vs_AS_-_Final.docx

Along with the above form, the doctor’s letter should also be sent along with the explanations that were mentioned. It usually takes 10 working days to issue this license. If you apply for this license outside of the UK, it will take more time to issue it.
