Why our brains are cooked frogs?
What is the liberation technique?
If you put a frog in a container of water and heat the water slowly, you will see that the frog does not react to the heating of the water until the water boils and the frog is cooked and dies. But if you take the frog and put it in a container of water that has a significant temperature difference with the frog’s body temperature (boiling water), you will see that it quickly jumps out because it cannot tolerate this temperature change.
This metaphorical story reminds us of an interesting point, which is that the human mind has weaknesses. Among these weaknesses is that it does not notice very gradual negative or positive changes. And this problem becomes dangerous when these gradual changes become trends over time and endanger your survival/your organization/your country. In other words, because our brain recognizes danger more in cases where something suddenly happens in its environment, it understands less when the danger is spreading slowly and gradually.
Let me give three examples in the three areas of personal life management, organizational management and state management.
1. You must have heard in the news that some have died playing computer games. For playing relentlessly. You may ask yourself how people become addicted to cyberspace or computer games? Let’s make a simple calculation. Considering the explosion of information and the ever-increasing expansion of the content of virtual networks, if we spend only three minutes more on virtual networks every day. At the end of the year, it will be 18 hours, which is equivalent to the time we wake up. No one has been addicted since day one.
2. If you have a thousand customers and every day only one customer is upset with you. This is not very important. It doesn’t matter numerically (it’s one thousandth) and it has no effect on your profitability. But at the end of the year, the ratio of lost customers reaches more than 30%.
3⃣ If a small workshop of 30 people is closed every week in every province of the country, maybe it will not be noticed. But at the end of five years, if we accept that each of the workers in those workshops has a family of four, then the livelihood of one million people will be endangered. Their children will not have proper health and education, and neglect, marginalization, addiction, divorce, betrayal and other social harms plague adults.
Strategic prescription:
In order not to fall into the trap of a cooked frog, it is possible to suggest the “technique of the hidden future in the current situation”. The purpose of this technique is to depict the future hidden in the current situation. In other words, we want to know what the future will be like if the current situation continues? This technique artificially boils our frog brain by depicting the future. In this technique, we ask ourselves the following 3 questions:
1⃣ What parameters are changing around us?
2⃣ Which of these parameters, their changes are less and less important, but they have gradual but permanent changes?
3⃣ If these changes continue for some time (one year, five years, ten years), what will happen?
