Introduction of Romanov sheep

Breed name: Romanfromanov

Breed name: Romanov
Origin: Russia
Weight of an adult ram: 80-90 kilograms
Adult ewe weight: 70-80 kg
Daily weight gain (for triplets and more than triplets): 264 grams
The average rate of multiple births: 289% (the rate of multiple births in September births is on average 280% and in March births it reaches the limit of 350%.)

The origin of the race and its capabilities
The main origin of this breed is Russia and it was first imported to France in 1963 by INRA research center for research purposes. Following breeding projects by French specialists, this breed has the highest rate of multiple births among all sheep breeds in the world. Romanov was a pure race and did not arise from the crossbreeding of races. This breed is precocious and its lambs show maturity characteristics at the age of 4 months. Very good fertility, very long breeding season, unique maternal characteristics (both in purebred and in Romanov crossbreds), high ability of mother to support newborn lambs and very high physical strength of newborn lambs are among many characteristics. The Romanov race is prominent.

Qualitative and quantitative breeding traits
This breed can reproduce all year round, and Romanov rams will be able to fertilize ewes in all seasons. The ability of this breed to reproduce outside the season on the one hand and the highest rate of multiple births on the other hand, has caused this breed to multiply rapidly in all parts of the world. The high genetic potential of this breed and the results of breeding efforts and record statistics show that in the Romanov breed, twins are usually born in the first birth and triplets are born in subsequent births.
The record number of healthy lambs born in one birth belongs to this breed and it is 9 lambs that happened in Russia. It is worth mentioning that ewes with 50% Romanoff blood share are also able to have high multiples of about 200%.
Romanov ewes are excellent mothers in terms of feeding and raising lambs, and in terms of maternal features, they are comparable to Romanov. Lambs do not have a high body weight at the time of birth, but they have a good daily growth. The right time for mating for Romanoff lambs is at the age of 8 months when the ewes have reached 2.3 maturity weight.
