It is proper for the fasting person not to miss Suhoor, even if he eats little

It is proper for the fasting person not to miss Suhoor, even if he eats little. It is said in the hadith that: “Eating suhoor is a blessing, so do not leave it even if one of you drinks only a sip of water [for suhoor].” [Sahih al-Jami: 3683].

The evidence given in the Sunnah shows the superiority of Suhoor over Iftar, because the texts about Iftar are about eating it early, but the texts about Suhoor are more about encouraging to eat Suhoor. The importance people give to eating iftar and their disregard for suhoor show their lack of recognition of the superiority of one worship over another. It is appropriate to pay attention to both, and paying attention to Sahri is more important.

Giving suhoor to those who are fasting is more virtuous than giving iftar, because in general, suhoor is better than iftaar, and the person who eats suhoor accepts fasting, which is one of the pillars of Islam. There is no proven hadith for the virtue of breaking the fast, but Allah’s grace is widespread [and this work will not be without reward].

Eating dates at Suhoor is recommended, and this is a tradition that many neglect and think that dates are Sunnah only at Iftar. It is mentioned in the hadith that the Messenger of God, may God bless him and grant him peace, said: “The best suhri of a believer is dates” [Sahih Abu Dawud: 2345].

It is permissible for a person who eats suhoor to eat the water or food in his hand when he hears the adhan [and not put it on the ground]. This permission was narrated from a group of Salaf and there are hadiths attributed to the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him).
