Career opportunities for international students in Russia
Regarding working conditions and job opportunities in Russia, it is better to know that non-Russian citizens must be over 18 years of age and receive the relevant permission from the General Directorate of Migration Affairs of the Ministry of Interior of Russia.
International students if they are employed at universities (or affiliated organizations) outside of class time (including holidays); They do not need a license.
In the context of job opportunities in Russia for students, permission is required in all other cases. This permit is issued only to students who are studying full-time in one of the accredited public universities.
Students should work only in the professional field specified in the license. Also, they can only work in the district (city) where their university is located.
The aforementioned license is valid for one year and must be renewed for the duration of the relevant work contract.
Keep in mind that the job opportunity in Russia will no longer be valid for students who leave their studies for any reason.
If a student changes their job before the end of the current permit period, they may be able to take up the next job with the same permit, but they must notify the General Directorate of Migration Affairs of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia of these changes.
Since 2014, it has become very easy for international students to obtain a work permit. The number of relevant documents has been reduced and the length of the process has also been reduced (for 10 working days).
This permit is issued by the regional immigration department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia, where the following documents must be submitted:
1. Request letter
2. Passport
3. Immigration card
4. Presentation of payment receipt (3500 rubles in 2018)
5. Employment contract
6. Certificate of HIV negative status, absence of infectious diseases or drug addiction
7. A statement from the university confirming that the student is enrolled in a full-time academic course
What happens if you work without the required documents?
Students who work without a permit will be forced to pay a fine of 2000-5000 rubles. In Moscow, as well as St. Petersburg and Leningrad region, the punishment includes 5000-7000 rubles and deportation from Russia.
