Lest Sistan and Balochistan be forgotten

Sistan and Baluchestan should not be forgotten

⏰ Reading time: one and a half minutes

The country is in shock and mourning the plane crash and its passengers flying to eternity. However, massive floods have also occurred in Sistan and Baluchestan (especially in the southern regions of the province in Balochistan).

First, I will present some information I have obtained from reliable expert sources, and then a few points that may help alleviate the suffering of the flood victims.

Floods in some rivers in Balochistan have reached a maximum flow of 13,000 cubic meters per second. A sign of the greatness of the flood that has been unique in the past thirty years and apparently only comparable to the famous flood of Gono in this province.

The Meteorological Department had forecast between 60 and 120 mm of rainfall in the province on Saturday, which is about half of the annual rainfall in the region.

The slope of the land in this region of the country is low and the water is distributed over a wide area and with a long distance from the rivers. Many people are affected by floods.

The soil texture in the area is such that water remains on the soil for a long time and although the people of the area are familiar with these floods, their lives are severely affected for a long time.

 A few points

Almost all media outlets in the country do not have a specialized journalism or natural disasters reporting department. This causes crises and subsequently crisis-affected people to be neglected and news of natural disasters is not reflected in a realistic and professional manner.

Official media coverage is not enough to inform, a local and influential local information network must be used.

Sistan and Baluchestan is one of the least developed provinces in the country and needs more organizational, governmental, public and popular assistance. Baloch compatriots should not be left alone in these circumstances.

The events of the last two weeks, especially the plane crash, have the potential to cover up flood news. Journalists and media should pay more attention.

Sanitary goods, food, heating appliances, tents and other necessities are essential to help the people of the region, especially the villages.

The experience of the April 2019 floods has shown that if NGOs are willing to help, they should act in full coordination with official authorities, and official organizations should also consider the help of Samen as a great booty.
