live your unlived life

Live your unlived life!

Carl Jung, a Swiss psychiatrist, says:
The biggest burden that a child has to bear is the unlived life of the parents. He meant that wherever and whenever the parents were stuck in their development in life becomes an internal factor for us and we also get stuck in the same place. We often find ourselves struggling with unresolved issues from our parents. Sometimes we may repeat the patterns of our ancestors or we may rebel and try to do something against them. Resisting parental influence is as limiting as compromising with it.

Example: A friend’s soccer father who pursues his own dreams through him even if it is at the expense of his children’s growth. Or a mother who passes on the shortcomings of her life to her daughters. These are simple examples of unlived life that have been unconsciously passed on to the next generation. As long as we unknowingly serve the ambitions or plans or limitations of our parents, we are captives of the past.
