Mosquito net, fan, air conditioner, rechargeable lamp, electric motor
(Mohammed Fadeli – Faculty member of Shahid Beheshti University)
Participating in the meetings related to relief and rescue and providing assistance to the flood victims and based on the information I heard from the responsible officials in these meetings, it shows that the items needed by the flood victims have changed after the majority of them passed the emergency aid stage.
First, the need for items such as water, canned goods, or hygiene items for immediate relief is reduced.
Second, flood victims – especially in Khuzestan province – need five items of durable goods for use in temporary accommodation camps. These items include:
Mosquito net: the humidity of the environment, the heat of the air and the special climate of Khuzestan, the abundance of mosquitoes (mosquitoes that are different and more annoying than mosquitoes in cold areas or in normal conditions like Tehran) have made the lives of flood victims miserable. A mosquito net is essential. It is probably the same in other areas of flooding.
Fan: The heat of the air hurts the families living in the camps and other flood victims.
Air conditioner: The humidity of Khuzestan makes it necessary to use an air conditioner.
Rechargeable lamp: Overcoming the darkness in the camps and the entire relief operation requires a rechargeable lamp.
Electric motor: Electricity supply in some areas requires an electric motor.
Red Crescent Centers are the most appropriate recipients of aid. The Red Crescent should announce the centers and places to receive aid with more transparency and volume.
A few suggestions
The Meteorological Organization can include a special section in its daily weather report on TV at different hours and inform the people clearly and emphatically about the air temperature of different cities of the flooded cities. Informing people about the heat of the flooded areas, and the difficulty of the situation, is important to encourage aid.
Families of the same family can pool the amount they want to donate to make it possible to buy and donate these more expensive than essential items.
Maybe a website, a startup, or a mobile app could help donors who don’t know each other find each other in their city, pool their money, and work together to buy each of these relatively more expensive durable items. do
