Sanctioning of fourteen individuals and institutions supporting the drone program of the Islamic Republic by the US Treasury Department
On Tuesday, December 28, the US Treasury’s Office of Foreign Assets Control imposed new sanctions against 10 companies and 4 individuals based in Iran, Malaysia, Hong Kong, and Indonesia for procuring drone parts and supporting the production of drones by the Iranian regime.
Brian Nelson, the Deputy Secretary of the Treasury for Terrorism and Financial Intelligence, has announced in this statement that the illegal production and proliferation of deadly drones by the Islamic Republic for terrorist proxy groups in the Middle East and Russia leads to the escalation of tensions and the prolongation of conflicts and undermines stability.
According to the report of the US Treasury Department, the activities of this network and the procurement of American and foreign parts worth hundreds of thousands of dollars for the IRGC were facilitated by a person named Hossein Hatfi Ardakani, the chairman of the board of directors of Behrad Kavan Electronics Company in Iran. Using his company in Iran, the mentioned person directly contracts with the Aerospace Force and the Research and Self-Sufficient Jihad Organization of the Revolutionary Guards and coordinates the purchase of defense parts through companies in Malaysia, Hong Kong and other countries.
Also, Mehdi Dehghani Mohammadabadi, CEO of Kavan Electronics, is on the sanctioned list. Gholamreza Ebrahimzadeh Ardakani is the director of Teftab Tadbir Aria engineering company based in Iran and the owner and director of Samad Electronics; He is also responsible for providing items related to drones for Hossein Hatfi Ardakani and his network.
Also, Iran-based Saman Industrial Group has signed a contract with Kavan Electronics Company owned by Hatfi Ardakani for the purchase of servomotors on behalf of the Pasdaran Messim terrorist group.
