Saskatchewan needs more than 2,000 new doctors and nurses over the next five years, the provincial auditor reports
The province of Saskatchewan is facing a shortage of human resources in the health sector, and the need for human resources in this field will increase in the coming years.
For this reason, the provincial audit organization has announced that the Saskatchewan Public Health Authority, or SHA, must hire more than 2,000 human resources in this sector in the next 5 years.
In the annual report of Mrs. Tara Clemett, the provincial auditor, which was recently published, a wide range of issues, including the facilities needed by the health system, have been examined.
In this report, it is mentioned that SHA will need about 2,200 personnel in the health sector in the next 5 years, which will include 840 Continuing Care Assistants, 520 nurses and 180 medical laboratory technicians.
“For Saskatchewan residents to have access to the health services they need, officials must anticipate not only the number and type of health care professionals needed to provide these services, but also the locations where these needs are greatest,” Ms. Clement said. to be determined.”
He added: “Knowing these issues will help implement appropriate strategies to attract and especially retain employees.”
In September, the Saskatchewan government released its Health and Human Resources Plan, detailing how it will hire and retain health care workers.
It should be noted that this $60 million project is planned to attract about 1,000 doctors, nurses and other health care support staff to fill vacancies across the province.
