“Scythe and Rocket”
A few decades ago, when I was a student, in the middle of summer, an unfortunate and surprising news spread by word of mouth. In one of the villages of Ahar city (my hometown), a farmer who went to harvest wheat in his field did not return home in the evening. The reason was that his neck was cut! The story was that the tired farmer, after finishing his day’s work, hung his scythe around his neck and was riding his donkey back home. When he passes by a herd, a dog runs towards him and barks. To drive the dog away, the farmer used a sickle that he hung on his neck.
Our lives were supposed to be defended against a threat on the other side of the borders, and Tehran’s internal missile, Bikh Gush, hurt us. But this is not the only time we make these fatal mistakes. Tabriz train to Mashhad, Yasouj plane, Shin Abad school and even funeral ceremony! These are the mistakes that have created heat and misery. But we also have more terrible calamities that have happened slowly. How many people do we lose every year due to air pollution in Tehran and big cities? The cause of which is gross management mistakes in the field of industry and transportation and inefficient and scandalous management in the field of the environment, which continue to create calamities with the full support of the authorities. Over the past decades, how many times has there been a flood and killed our loved ones and left thousands of billions worth of damage? The reason for them is the cutting of forests and pastures and excesses in building dams and digging wells and building unassessed roads. and the members of the parliament have even launched election campaigns to approve each of these disastrous plans, and the ministers and governors and They have worked hard to finance it and have dreamed for us. Now, because forests, pastures, dams, and wells do not have a black box, should the officials continue to insist on their lies and mistakes and repeat the same fatal mistakes?
Missiles, airplanes, trains, buses, oil-burning heaters, road and dam projects full of corruption and unaccountable industrial settlements. There are sharp scythes that we hang on our necks due to chronic and acute management crisis, and the herd dogs are barking and we, out of breath, reach for the scythe!
