Several hundred SOPs are sent to the faculty every year. If you want to be accepted, your SOP must be distinctive.
Now what is distinctiveness in:
First, we should see what everyone is saying, we should not say them.
Second, it should be personal, just like a story. It starts with how you became interested in this field, what did you learn in your bachelor’s degree, what subjects did you become interested in and how, why do you want to study a master’s degree, why this field, what is the program after graduation.
Third, set two copies. One should be around 950 words, the other should be 480 words. If the university put a word limit and yours was long, summarizing it is quite stressful and nerve-wracking.
Fourth, don’t let anything go. That is, if you mentioned something, fully explain why and how.
Fifth, don’t praise the university too much. They themselves know that they are good. They are reading the motivation letter to get to know you. This kind of thing templates your work.
Sixth, get comments from professors with different backgrounds as much as you can. Professors generally don’t give proper comments until you tell them what to comment on. Ask them to tell you: which parts need to be detailed, which parts should be deleted, whether the reasons you stated are convincing or not.
Seventh, don’t use slogans in motivation letter, don’t give arbitrary praise and so on
Eighth, from the point of view of language, no matter how many times proofreading is done, but someone who has read this field and knows what to do should check it!!! The one whose home language alone is not reliable at all, must also know the field completely.
Ninth, everything you said should be proved in the portfolio.
