Shoot the Internet!
Mohammad Dari
After 7 months of struggle and protests of millions of citizens, the #protection_plan was approved today in the #revolutionary_parliament. The designers of the plan chose the right time to approve the plan because its approval at this point in time can lead to the least protest after the approval, because due to the closeness of the agreement on the nuclear issue and the lifting of sanctions in the coming days, the designers of #Sayanat_Omid They want this agreement to diminish the negative effect of this resolution in the minds of the people so that there will not be a large-scale protest against it.
The end of the year and the busyness of the people is the right time for the designers to approve the #protection plan, because at this point in time, people are very busy and according to the designers, they may protest less about this plan; Especially since with the end of the year holidays, attention will be directed to other issues.
Domestic and international political developments such as Russia’s attack on Ukraine can be an excuse to deviate from this discussion.
The opponents of this project have been reviewing the budget in the parliament, and the least resistance to approve it was formed within the parliament itself. And we cannot gather and make a decision for a project of this importance in 45 minutes.”
While if this plan was approved a month before or after the Nowruz holiday, the social conditions facing this resolution could be completely different from today. But what will happen with the approval of the #protection plan in simple language?
1. The means of communication between its people will be disrupted even more in the conditions of the Corona epidemic.
2. People’s freedom in using technological tools will be violated more than ever.
3. Access to filter breakers will become more difficult and access to Telegram and Twitter, through which the same protest texts are written, may be more disrupted.
4. Serious restrictions may be imposed on Instagram, which is a place of entertainment, communication and earning for millions of Iranians.
5. Corrupt mechanisms will be formed in the name of protecting internal messengers and protecting cyberspace users, and some people and special groups will benefit from this.
6. Internet businesses will be affected and the risk of investing on the Internet platform will increase.
7. The monitoring of users’ behavior will be intensified, which will further reduce their political and social freedoms.
8. An appointed committee for the Internet will decide that whenever they want to manage the Internet, they can connect and disconnect the Internet on a legal basis, or increase or decrease its speed and bandwidth, and all these things will be done in the name of the law.
The approval of the #Protection_Plan showed once again that the Revolutionary Assembly does not pursue the interests of the general public, but the interests of a specific group; The very low vote of most of the representatives of this parliament and their selection process also confirms this.
Now we just have to hope that the bullet fired towards the Internet does not hit the target in the execution process and is stopped or diverted in the execution process. The hope that seems illusory in the current situation where policy makers and executives are not paying attention to the people’s wishes.
