The future belongs to smart cities
Smart cities in the future need to expand data centers or green data centers. These centers should use all available techniques for the benefit of urban environments and reduce the harmful environmental effects in cities.
Meanwhile, the Swedish capital plans to become a carbon-free city by 2040. To achieve this goal, Stockholm has become an attractive location for green data center operators. Data centers play a very important role in providing renewable energy, while they host many smart plans to control traffic and reduce the amount of greenhouse gases in the city.
I believe that data centers are an important factor in the development of our societies and should be at the heart of planning cities and energy infrastructure. In fact, urban planning and data centers should go hand in hand and accelerate the fight against climate change. Data center operators contribute to the smart and sustainable future of cities and bring many economic benefits.
In the heart of Sweden, we plan to invest heavily in digital innovation in 2019, and we have allocated a figure of around 115 million kroner to digital innovation.
In addition to this special initiative, Stockholm is already a world leader for energy efficiency and local production of renewable energy. I am proud to announce that the city has reduced its greenhouse gas emissions by 44 percent since 1990, and we will soon reach our goal of reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 2.3 tons per year.
Stockholm will remain a sustainable city while becoming an attractive, inspiring and green living environment for all citizens. According to pollution standards in accordance with international standards, the city of Stockholm is the only city that has managed to control various types of pollution in urban life and has more than 800 km of bicycle paths.
I must also point out that among the indicators of the smart city, Stockholm has a score of 10 in the field of electronic government, but in the field of clean energy, citizens’ participation, internet speed and mobile phone penetration, this city’s situation is also excellent.
Our city received the Smart City Award in 2009 and was selected as the Green Capital of Europe in 2010. This city was the first city to introduce 4G mobile technology. Citizen participation (each citizen recycles about 10 kg of waste), digital management and internet speed are high in this city. Its transportation system consists of ships, high-speed trains, about 2,000 city buses, 1,000 city trains and electric trolleys (most of which use green energy). Most urban transportation systems use recycled fuels.
It is interesting to know that in our city, companies that use less fuel and turn off the lights when their offices are empty are exempt from paying taxes. Also, there are about 3000 clean technology companies in this city that make the city greener than before.
