Violation of Tomaj Salehi’s death sentence

The death sentence of #Tomaj_Salehi was overturned by the Supreme Court of the country and his case was sent to the branch for re-examination. According to the opinion of the Supreme Court, the previous verdict of the Revolutionary Court, which led to the sentence of 6 years and three months of imprisonment of Tomaj, was violated and found to be against the provisions of the law. The leading censorship organization together with the Oslo Freedom Association as well as the #Tomaj_Salehi international lawyers team released a joint statement regarding the cancellation of Tomaj’s sentence and wrote: “We are happy that from today Tomaj is no longer facing the threat of execution.” We will continue to work for the release of this outstanding artist, but we want to thank everyone for the solidarity shown so far.

In part of this statement, it is written: “This sentence was issued after about 3 years of judicial harassment, arrest and torture. Therefore, even a shorter prison term is unfair for him. Tomaj has only asked for his and other Iranians’ constitutional rights to be respected and he should be free to continue his music and seek the necessary medical care after his imprisonment, free from any further imprisonment or harassment.”
