You must get the desired score of the university in the test. To get the desired score, like all language tests, you must have enough knowledge and skills in two dimensions.
1. General language knowledge:
which includes vocabulary, grammar, speaking ability, reading ability, listening ability, and writing ability. All this together makes you have a relative understanding of the target language.
What level of language knowledge is required?
Depending on the difficulty of an exam, different language skills may be required.
How to increase language knowledge?
Going to class, reading books, watching movies, listening to podcasts, learning vocabulary and many other things that we said on the channel. In general, the general knowledge of the language can be obtained with any general thing, but many books have been designed for this purpose. Books for language courses, grammar books, vocabulary.
2. Exam knowledge:
What is the structure of an exam, how many parts are it made of, what issues are raised in each part, what principles should be followed in each part and so on. For this, you should take a class that teaches you these issues, or read books or watch videos that teach the basics of that exam. It is better to go to class because a good teacher, in addition to teaching the basics, also takes your mistakes and puts you on the path of exam preparation by giving you practice.
Do you have to have B2 for the test?
I said above that there is no such necessity. You need a language knowledge for this test. Maybe all this language knowledge is not obtained at the B1 level, but this does not mean that you must finish the B2 course to obtain this knowledge. At the same time you are preparing for the exam, you can read the side books that are in line with the exam, but their emphasis is on knowledge of general language, so that you can show it with a double arrow. For example, if you read the sample books of the exam well, they must contain a lot of words or audio files or speech topics that you can practice to strengthen your general language at the same time. If necessary, a good vocabulary or grammar book can be read along with exam preparation books.
But if you get the feeling that your level is too low by reading exam preparation books, or you don’t understand what he is saying for any reason, maybe you need to improve your general language first. This work does not necessarily happen by passing the course B2 or C1 or the like. It is better not to look at language in this way. Passing a level does not mean you know that level. If you have done well, you may know much more than that level, and if you have not done well, you may know much less. Finally, how much language knowledge you have is important, not what level you passed.
